What to discover
Choose a forest or river outing with suitable guidance. A farm visit adds another perspective on inhabited landscapes.
Heritage and traditions
Guayusa and maito feature in the museum’s food accounts. Discover them with the people who prepare them, without attributing medical benefits.
A suggested stay
Stay around Tena and spread outings across several days. Papallacta can be a separate stop when arriving from the Andes.
Plan this stop
For rafting, confirm the route, required experience and current conditions. In Misahuallí, watch animals without feeding them.

Practical information
When to go
The Amazon can be visited year-round, with heat, humidity and rain in every season. River levels affect boat trips and walks: confirm the programme with your host shortly before departure.
What to book or arrange
Arrange your forest stay, guide and transfers with the host before arrival. Ask which visits are included, who leads them and how the programme adapts to rain and river levels.
Local food to try

Discover maito, in which a wrapping of bijao or banana leaves preserves the fish’s flavours during cooking. Guayusa is served as an infusion and can open a conversation about traditions hosts choose to share.
