Start with the birds
A local guide can help first-time visitors locate birds and understand their habitats. Agree on the route and starting time ahead; a dedicated morning is more rewarding than squeezing birdwatching into a packed day. Sightings depend on conditions and are never guaranteed.
Choose a waterfall walk
Mindo offers different ways to explore forest and waterfalls. Choose according to walking time, gradients and your appetite for adventure. Ask which access points are included and whether transport is needed. Rain can change trail conditions, so allow flexibility.
Discover chocolate
A workshop introduces cacao processing and contrasting flavours. Ask where the beans come from: chocolate made in Mindo does not necessarily use cacao grown there. This visit fits well after a forest morning or during a shower.
Two days at a slower pace
One suggested plan is a walk and chocolate visit on day one, followed by a night in Mindo and birdwatching the next morning. For a cabin or glamping stay, compare access, distance from the village, meals and comfort in wet weather. Confirm transport from Quito and the final approach before booking.
